Cineaste Magazine is a quarterly publication that offers a social, political, and aesthetic perspective on cinema. Despite its well established reputation, the readership of this magazine is relatively low and there is a clear need to elevate its visual presence. The main objective of this project is to add a visual personality that resonates with its subject while still accommodating its artistic and scholarly approach to cinema.

Brand Identity

The masthead logo is inspired by the film strip and viewfinder of the camera. Cinematic visual motifs are consistently used throughout the magazine as graphic elements and image frames.

Magazine Cover

Image frame from the logo is also used as a flexible cover design, where every issue has a different cover.

Inside Pages

For the theme of this issue, I chose to introduce films with stories of the immigrant community. I chose this subject matter to reflect myself as an immigrant, but it was also a great decision for the brand as the increasing popularity of films portrays immigrant culture.
